Involute splines
External helical gearing
Splines
Involute splines and plug-in splines
There are different types of external gears, with the most common forms being straight, helical and curved (spiral toothing) gears. External gears are also differentiated according to tooth profiles, such as involute toothing, cycloidal and special profiles.
External gears can be designed as spur gears, bevel gears, worm gears or gear racks. The choice depends on the torque, the transmission ratio, the installation space and the manufacturing method.
External gears are often produced by hobbing, gear shaping or rolling. The gearing can also be ground for precision machining.
External gears are easy to manufacture and install. They enable a wide range of combinations. Due to their position outside the gear diameter, they offer a favourable ratio between installation space and transmittable torque.
The maintenance of external gears is usually easier and spare parts can be replaced just as quickly. Installation is also often less complicated compared to internal gears.
What advantages can our customers gain from manufacturing at our company?
We offer our customers the following benefits:
Using measuring machines from our Gleason gear measuring centres or 3D measurements with Zeiss-Contura, we test and measure your components precisely and in accordance with standards. An air-conditioned measuring room ensures stable conditions such as temperature and humidity, and thus delivers reproducible results. As a result, we ensure the quality of your components from the initial sample inspection to the final inspection.
